About eceConsults

EceConsults is an online community for everyone involved in Early Childhood Education . We provide a network where everyone will be a welcomed and welcoming member of the early childhood family. We provide a place for stimulating conversation, a place to exchange ideas, to find inspiration, allies and friends, a place to seek and share expert advice, a place to find a mentor and become a mentor, a place to post or read about positions in the field. We want to build a community that willprovide nourishment for its members.

Would you like to be a part of it? Take a look at our beginnings and tell us what you think. We want to hear from you! We hope you will give us your feedback about what you would like to see on these pages.

Our Philosophy

We actively welcome diversity and wish to create a space of inclusiveness where we all act from mutual respect and a welcoming interest in the diversity of our membership. EceConsults is guided by anti-bias thought and practice as it relates to race, culture, gender, sexual preference, class, age and ability. We believe that development occurs in a context of family and society and that in our society children and families may be denied the ability to realize their full potential because of poverty, different abilities, and other institutional or social constraints. We encourage our members to continue teaching and learning about these constraints, to make these issues a continuing aspect of our discussion, and to work together to consider advocacy and action to support all children and families.

Our Logo...

The Storyteller Doll is a familiar figure in Pueblo and Hopi cultures.  The first storyteller was created by Helen Cordero, a member of the Cochiti Pueblo in Arizona.  There are many variations but the first was inspired by Cordero's memories of her grandfather, "a really good storyteller and there were always lots of us grandchildren around him".  The stories were myths of the Pueblo people carried down across many generations.  We chose the Storyteller as our logo because we hope to create a diverse community of people in early childhood education where we can exchange, pass on, and learn from our stories. The storyteller we have selected as our logo is by Judy Lewis of Acoma Pueblo. It is called “Woman with three children, ladybugs. bird, butterfly and white cat”. The photograph is courtesy of Sedonawolf Gallery at Sedonawolf@aol.com
